I must admit, I am a hoarder. Sometimes it’s just too hard for me to let go of the things (even those which I rarely use). When it comes to makeup, it’s the same story. A few days ago I read an article and I immediately ran into my bathroom and decided to clean up my makeup storage. I knew that makeup has an expiration date, but I didn’t know some of the products had such a short shelf life. I threw away some of the products I hadn’t been using for a long time or they were opened up too long ago. I also decided to give some of them away to friends and family (which were still ok, but rarely used). I thought it would be nice to share some of the things I’ve learned:

Every makeup product has an expiration date and even your favorite lipstick eventually becomes breeding grounds for bacteria. Period.
All (most) of the products have an expiration date printed on the packaging.
To get maximum longevity from your make up, buy only cosmetics that haven’t been opened. At home, you should store them in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight.
Light, humidity and moisture, air, and heat will age a product faster.
When you notice weird smell, color change or uneven consistency (when it solidify or separates), toss the product immediately.
Don’t be sad to say goodbye to your favorite lipgloss or bronzer. When you toss something out, there’s a new room for some more products.
The last part is the recommended shelf life for each makeup product after it has been opened for the first time. Here are the numbers that might shock you. Guidelines for when to discard your makeup are the following:

mascara after 3-6 months
foundation 1 year
everything in cream forms (cream blushes, concealers, cream eyeshadows, bronzers) 12-18 months
powders (face powder, blush, bronzer, eyeshadows) 2 years
eyeliner 3-6 months (eye pencil 2 years)
lipstick and lipgloss 18 months
nailpolishes 2 years (EU guidelines)

I got a chance to try out the newest skincare line from Oriflame, named True Perfection. It’s four products all contain Persian Silk Tree extract. This powerfull ingredient rich in amino acids and minerals neutralises cellular impurities caused by lifestyle factors to help make skin look noticeably radiant, more even and silky smooth. By far my favourite out of these 4 is the Oriflame True Perfection Renewing Night Cream that helps renew skin overnight, perfecting it while you sleep. It is enriched with Glycolic Acid to help smoothen first expression lines and improve skin texture, revealing smoother, softer skin. I find it super rich, not greasy, really easy to apply and spread all over the face and neck (probably due to the silicones it contains). The daily version is the Oriflame True Perfection Perfecting Day Moisturizer, a lightweight textured cream, which works nicely as a base for a foundation. The additional two skincare products are Oriflame True Perfection Refreshing Eye Illuminator (nice boost for tired eyes with a cooling massager) and the Oriflame True Perfection Miracle Perfecting Serum (that evens out skin tone, enhances, radiance and reduces the visible signs of fatique).

It’s this time of the year when the skin on my hands demands special treatment. My hands were literally screaming for a good handcream and Mirati came to the rescue with their Mirati Hand Cream. A unique combination of organic Ghee, Aloe Vera and Orange Fruit essential oil convinced me after the first application (if you don’t like the smell of orange peels, this one may not be your winner). The formula is crafted to moisturize and protect your hands against the effects of weather, hard water, soap, detergent and other external factors. The packaging itself doesn’t look anything special, it’s rather minimalistic, on the other hand, a big plus is its patented and eco-friendly tube design that keeps your cream fresh and helps you extract more cream than your conventional tubes. The packaging is quite big (100ml) which doesn’t really make this cream easy to carry around. However, you get a lot of product for 12,31€ – and since you don’t need much to keep your hands moisturized, it will last you at least a couple of weeks. It absorbs into your skin relatively fast; the soothing and well-moisturized feeling lasts at least a few hours. The important fact I feel I need to share with you, is the fact that Mirati never tests their products on animals. Their products are free from parabens, phthalates, SLS and synthetic fragrances. Mirati is all about »giving back« to the community – a part of the sale proceeds will go to a charity of your choice. That sounds amazing, right? The products from this new Slovenian brand are definitely worth checking out (HERE).

P.S. If you are wondering what a Ghee is, this short answer might help: Ghee is a class of butter, derived through a process of clarifying, it is perfect for moisturizing and soothing your skin, enriching it with antioxidants. It originates in India. Mirati’s ghee is a certified organic ingredient.

Ingredients: Aqua, Aloe vera (Aloe barbadensis), Propanediol, Glycerin, Caprylic Capric Triglycerides, Ghee, Glyceryl Stearate Citrate, Glyceryl Monostearate, Cetearyl Alcohol, Potassium Sorbate, Benzyl Alcohol Dehydroacetic Acid, Xanthan gum, Vitamin E, Orange essential oil (Citrus sinensis).

Today’s outfit post is all about keeping it simple. Lately, I’ve been loving my new fluffy gray sweater which goes great with any black piece I have in my closet. Definitely my most worn combination is the one with simple black trousers, leather jacket and some silver accessories. A classic Daniel Wellington watch is a must! I would also like to remind you that you can still enter my Daniel Wellington watch giveaway. Check it out here.
