Trieste is known as the crossroads for travelers, as the former Austro-Hungarian Empire’s port, a place where you can get great coffee and gelato while breathing the sea air, get fascinated by the Neoclassical buildings and have an occasional shopping spree. It’s also known for its narrow streets and rather hectic driving. Luckily Tesa, Katarina and I had a chance to explore it in an eco-friendly supermini, the Toyota Yaris Hybrid. This small, but surprisingly spacious car turned out to be a great match for the traffic (it was an automatic, which was a great plus for sure). We drove to the Castello di Miramare, a 19th century castle with a lovely park at the edge of Trieste and later explored other old city’s unique landmarks and attractions. We had delicious seafood pasta and a gourmet ice cream. Just a quick stroll from our hotel, the Savoia Excelsior Palace (read all about it here) was the Piazza Unita d’Italia and a few steps more the Canale Grande. As you can see we took the advantage of the warm sunny weather, took some (a lot of!) photos, chatted and had a lot of fun! The drive home was definitely one of the highlights of our trip, Tesa turned out to be a great driver and our Toyota Yaris managed to conquer the steepest and the most narrow road out of the city. I truly had an amazing time and can’t wait to get lost in the streets of another city with my two blogger friends again!
